On Thursday 10th October, Great Sankey High School will proudly join thousands of schools, communities, and organisations across the country in supporting Hello Yellow, a national campaign run by YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity for young people’s mental health.
What is Hello Yellow?
Launched in 2016, Hello Yellow takes place every year on World Mental Health Day. It is a campaign designed not only to raise much-needed funds but also to raise awareness of the importance of mental health for children and young people. Each year, thousands of people across the UK wear yellow, fundraise, and send a powerful message: no young person should ever feel alone with their mental health.
At Great Sankey High School, this message is something we passionately believe in. Young people today face many pressures, from academic expectations to the fast pace of social media and the challenges of growing up in an ever-changing world. It is vital that schools, families, and communities work together to ensure that children have the support, guidance, and resources they need to look after their wellbeing.
Why We’re Taking Part
As a school, we are fully committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our students. Campaigns like Hello Yellow give us the opportunity to not only raise money for a vital charity but also to open up conversations, reduce stigma, and remind our students that asking for help is a sign of strength.
YoungMinds provides young people with the tools to manage their mental health, empowers adults to support the young people in their care, and gives young people the platform to share their voices and shape change. Their work has already had a huge impact across the UK, but with 1 in 6 children now experiencing a mental health problem, their mission is more important than ever. By taking part in Hello Yellow, we are standing alongside them in saying that mental health matters – in fact, it is every bit as important as physical health.
What’s Happening in School
Throughout the week, we have planned a number of activities to help raise awareness and funds:
- Yellow pin ribbons will be sold by our Wellbeing Ambassadors and Junior Leadership Team (JLT), encouraging students to wear their support with pride.
- Mental health awareness assemblies will be delivered to all year groups (with the exception of Year 11, who are attending Warrington Vale). These assemblies will help students understand more about mental health, how to look after themselves, and how to support others.
- On Friday 11th October, there will be a cake sale ????, with proceeds going directly to YoungMinds.
- Ahead of the Game, a wellbeing initiative from Warrington Wolves, will be running sessions in school, with the exciting possibility of a special appearance from Wolfie the mascot ????.
- We are also working with Youth Zone to provide fun lunchtime activities, creating another opportunity for students to come together in a positive and supportive way.
We hope that these activities will not only raise funds but also help to foster a culture of openness, kindness, and resilience within our school community.
How You Can Help
We would love for parents, carers, and members of our wider community to support us in this campaign. Whether that’s encouraging your child to wear something yellow on the day, donating cakes for the sale, or making a financial contribution to the charity, every action – no matter how small – makes a difference.
If you would like to support our campaign, donations can be made directly through our fundraising page:
