Year 12 Head to North Wales for Unforgettable Fieldwork Adventure

Our Year 12 students recently swapped the classroom for the coast and countryside on their action-packed residential trip to North Wales, blending geography fieldwork with a healthy dose of fun and fresh air.
Day One – Sand Dunes and Sunset Views
The trip began with fieldwork at the Talacre sand dunes, where students measured dune height and identified vegetation types as part of their coastal studies. After a morning of data collection (and sand in their shoes), everyone enjoyed lunch at the Point Restaurant. A highlight of the day—and a talking point for the rest of the trip—was Miss Talbot and Ralfie Egan proudly purchasing matching Crocs. The evening saw the group relaxing at Conwy Marina, soaking up the sunset over the boats.
Day Two – Anglesey Exploration
Day two took the students over to Anglesey. In the morning, they conducted questionnaires and environmental surveys at the famously long-named village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch—practising saying it proved almost as challenging as collecting data! Next stop was Bwa Du, where the striking arch and rock formations provided a perfect example of coastal geology in action. The group then braved the countless steps down to South Stack Lighthouse, with an even tougher climb back to the top. In the evening, everyone gathered to play murder mystery—a popular activity throughout the trip.
Day Three – Llandudno Fieldwork and Golf
Students spent the morning in Llandudno carrying out beach profiles, pebble surveys and wave counts, followed by more questionnaires and environmental surveys in the town. To round off the day, the group drove up Great Orme to admire the views and play a round of golf before returning for another evening of murder mystery.
Day Four – Waterfalls and Farewells
The final day featured a visit to Llanberis and Aber Falls. After exploring Llanberis Lake and learning about the area’s industrial past at the old hospital, everyone enjoyed a well-earned ice cream. The group then hiked up to Aber Falls, where they picnicked at the top, taking in the spectacular waterfall. One last round of murder mystery closed the trip on a high.
This memorable experience gave students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of coastal and rural environments while making lasting memories with friends and staff. Thank you to all the staff who made the trip possible!
