2018 has been another successful year for Great Sankey Students. A further 16 qualifications were sat on the new 9-1 GCSE in addition to English and Mathematics, which were reformed in the previous academic year. There has been much in the press about the challenge of these new GCSEs and the rigorous demands placed on students. We are incredibly proud of both our students and staff, who through much hard work have been able to shine under this new set of qualifications.
57% of students achieved a ‘strong pass’, grade 5 or higher in both English and Maths. The percentage of students with a ‘standard pass’, grade 4 in English and Mathematics has remained high at 76%, this is also higher than the Warrington Figure (68.5%). There were notable achievements in both Academic and Arts subjects at the new GCSE 9-7 benchmark (formerly A*/A) with 28% Mathematics students achieving the highest grades, 24% in English Literature, 43% in Physics, 40% in Chemistry, 35% in Biology, 32% in French and 75% in Music.
