Welcome to STEM
Great Sankey High School has been an Engineering college since 2003 and the specialist status has been used as a platform to raise achievement in all subject areas. We were thrilled that our success as a Specialist school led to our re-designation in 2007.
It is our belief that the personal skills and qualities that are essential to become an effective engineer are the key skills for success in life such as problem solving, teamwork and communication.
This is why engineering skills are firmly embedded across all areas of the curriculum. We also offer a range of specialist engineering courses at level 2 and 3 as well as offering the opportunity to take a Young Apprenticeship in Engineering. Great Sankey will be delivering the Diploma in Engineering in September 2009 as a hub school for NW Warrington.
In October 2008 we were proud to officially open our new Automotive Skills Centre in partnership with the RAC. Students in years 10-13 already have the opportunity to work alongside RAC trainers to gain qualifications in motor vehicle engineering in a superb working environment.
We are proud to offer a range of extra curricular activities for our students to enhance their knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
For example, the S-Team, our cross curricular and cross phase STEM club is a lead ASSEC for the local area offering a range of events and practical activities for students of all ages and abilities. We have a huge number of students participating in Maths Challenges as well as various activities in Design and Technology such as the F1 challenge, Virgin Galactic competition, GO4SET and Green Power. Our sixth form students have the opportunity to participate in the EESE scheme amongst other lectures and visits based on STEM.
Over the years we have established and maintained excellent relationships with our business partners who include Atkins Global, Virgin Galactic, Ford Getrag, M.W.H., United Utilities, Sellafield, R.A.C., I.C.E., I.O.D., E.E.F., Warrington Collegiate, JAGUAR, Liverpool John Moore's University, Costain, Manchester University and Liverpool University.
