An exciting programme of activities is available for pupils of all ages, interests and abilities. The opportunities offered through our activities are important in broadening the experience of young people. They provide challenge and competition and promote teamwork, skill and athleticism, as well as helping to cultivate a sense of personal achievement.
There is a very popular and thriving Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, with the opportunity to continue right through to the Gold Award..
We want all our students to develop a wide range of interests, to be outward-looking and culturally aware. There are visiting writers, artists, speakers and theatre companies. We have a very strong tradition of Music and the Arts. The school corridors are a living Art gallery and our Drama productions are a highlight of our school calendar
There are field-trips, visits to art galleries and exhibitions, visits to museums, to the theatre, to universities, to and annual trips to France and Germany.
Ski parties have visited European and American resorts; the History and RS Department regularly visit the First World War battlefields; exchanges have been offered to China and South America and expeditions to the Himalayas and Borneo.
In clubs and societies as diverse as, dance, science, textiles, lego and drama, pupils are encouraged to make the most of their time and opportunities at Great Sankey, to achieve qualifications and develop the interests and skills to enrich their future lives. The LRC organise writing workshops, a reading activitist programme and competitions.
In addition departments offer exam support and provide revision classes, study skills and coursework clinics daily. A homework club is run each night and the LRC is open daily from 8am until 4pm with students being to access and use the computers at breaks and lunchtimes.
