Last week, we hosted a thriving SEND coffee morning, fostering a warm and supportive atmosphere in our Learning Resource Centre (LRC). Parents, guardians, and educators gathered for an enriching event aimed at enhancing understanding, collaboration, and engagement within our school community.

The highlight of the morning was a captivating talk delivered by our esteemed SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) Jen Edwards, accompanied by our recently qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Paula French and Higher Learning Teaching Assistant (HLTA). They shared insights, strategies, and resources tailored to support children with diverse learning needs, empowering parents with valuable tools to navigate their child's educational journey effectively.

Parents had the opportunity to delve into their children's individual learning plans, gaining a deeper understanding of the tailored approaches and goals designed to meet their child's unique needs. This personalized approach reinforces our commitment to inclusivity and ensures every student receives the support necessary to thrive academically and emotionally.

The interactive element of the morning brought parents together for a team-building exercise, challenging them to construct the tallest tower using only the resources provided. This engaging activity not only fostered camaraderie but also highlighted the importance of collaboration and creativity in overcoming challenges—a lesson applicable both in and out of the classroom.

Adding to the ambiance, students showcased their creativity by decorating delectable cakes, which not only looked stunning but also tantalized the taste buds of all attendees. Their involvement not only added a personal touch to the event but also emphasized the inclusive spirit of our school community.

The resounding success of the SEND coffee morning underscores the importance of open communication, collaboration, and continuous support in ensuring the holistic development of every student. As we reflect on this enriching experience, we eagerly anticipate planning another gathering next term, further strengthening the bonds within our school community and reaffirming our commitment to inclusive education.

We at Great Sankey High school remain dedicated to fostering an environment where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential, and events like the SEND coffee morning serve as a testament to this unwavering commitment. Together, we continue to journey towards creating a brighter, inclusive future for all.
