Great Sankey High School recently held a literacy competition that saw its students' creative writing skills put to the test. The competition was organized by the Learning Resource Centre, which worked with two renowned authors, Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Phil Earle, to inspire and encourage the students in their writing.
Cottrell-Boyce worked with Year 8 students, while Earle worked with Year 7 students, sharing their tips and tricks for crafting compelling stories. The workshops were well received, with students gaining valuable insights into the creative writing process and improving their skills.
Following the workshops, the Learning Resource Centre launched a short story competition for the students who had participated in the workshops. The competition was open to all students, and the judges were impressed by the quality of the entries.
The winners of the competition were announced recently, with Dara, a Year 7 student, and Miracle, a Year 8 student, taking the top honours. Dara's story was a tense thriller that kept the judges on the edge of their seats, while Miracle's story was a beautiful fantasy tale that showcased her imaginative storytelling abilities.
Both Dara and Miracle were thrilled to win the competition and receive a £10 Waterstones voucher. They both expressed their gratitude to the Learning Resource Centre, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, and Phil Earle for their support and encouragement.
The literacy competition was a huge success, and it is hoped that it will inspire more students to develop their creative writing skills. The Learning Resource Centre plans to run more workshops and competitions in the future to promote literacy and inspire a love of reading and writing among Great Sankey High School students.
